Diao Chan

Diao Chan is a character in the Chinese classical novel "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" written by Luo Guanzhong during Ming Dynasty. She was one of the "Four Great Beauties of Ancient China". Historical record has no mentioning of Diao Chan and merely mentioned that the warlord Dong Zhuo chief guard, Lu Bu, had an affair with one of Dong maids. Yet in Classics written during Tang, it was stated that before Cao Cao the winner of the Three Kingdoms had offered a beautiful maiden called Diao Chan to charm Dong Zhuo.

Diao Chan orphaned at an early age and was adopted by Wang Yun. He hired tutors to teach Diao Chan to sing and dance. In the final years of the Eastern Han Dynasty, the imperial authority fell into the hands of the notorious warlord, Dong Zhuo. Wang Yun desperately wanted to get rid of Dong.

Late one evening, Diao Chan prayed for a way to alleviate her father suffering. Wang Yun was so moved by his daughter love for him that he subsequently devised an ingenious plot by placing Diao Chan between Lu Bu and Dong Zhou, thus creating emnity between the two men. With Diao Chan encouragement, Lu slew Dong eradicating the tyrant, and saved the country and its people.
